Smetsers, chairwoman of the building’s strata committee and managing director of Soar Projects, worked tirelessly to try to bring all the owners of the 78 apartments on board with her daring plan, designed by award-winning architect Nick Tobias, to rework the building. It looks incredible compared to how it was. This is a building that now deserves its fabulous location. “It’s been a long, hard road to get here and, at times, I wanted to walk away. Formerly known as Glenview Court, the building underwent a $40 million transformation into the luxurious Skye Tamarama. “I’m getting so many calls from people saying how stunned they are at how spectacular it is. ![]() “It does look amazing now,” says Christine Smetsers, the woman who masterminded the transformation of the old seven-storey Glenview Court in Tamarama into the dazzling new eight-level Skye Tamarama, with the slightest of tremors in her voice. A 12-year project to renew, remodel and extend the block has turned the one-time ugly duckling of the eastern beaches into a graceful swan, with a new facade, a completely new skin over the entire edifice, glittering glass balconies, courtyards, refurbished apartments and, as its crowning glory, two new penthouses beneath a wave-shaped roof to come.
